JUPITER, Fla. - Juan Weissenberg of Miami fired a three under par 69 Thursday at Abacoa Golf Club to earn his second Minor League Golf Tour victory. Weissenberg made three birdies on each nine and three bogeys on the front. He earned $650 from the $3,393 purse. His first MLGT win was last Dec. 7 at the Country Club of Miami.

Four Players, Pierre-Henri Soero, Geoff Lee, Anthony Mannarino, and Amateur Braden List, tied for second at even par 72.  List also finished second earlier this month after shooting six under par 66 at The Fountains Country Club.  He lost a playoff with Max Alverio who birdied the first playoff hole.

Yesterday's winner Jim Fitzpatrick II tied for sixth with four players at one over par 73.

Jim Fitzpatrick II Shoots 67 For Third Win
June 18, 2008

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Jim Fitzpatrick II of Stratford, Conn., fired a five under par 67 Wednesday at West Palm Beach Golf Club to earn his third Minor League Golf Tour title.  After making the turn in 33 on three birdies, Fitzpatrick eagled the par-5 10th hole and added a bogey at No. 14 and another birdie at the 17th to win by two strokes over Taylor Stewart.

Stewart and six other players suffered through hours of a lightning delay, waiting for an opportunity to get back out on the course and finish.  All seven players had less than two holes to play and had to deal with steady rain and soggy conditions.  Five of the seven finished in the money, but three of those five bogeyed eighteen.

Apart from Fitzpatrick and Stewart, 17 players shot 70, 71 or 72.

A former Florida State University golfer, Fitzpatrick's two previous MLGT victories were within three days last month, May 19 on PGA National's Estate course and May 21 at Atlantis Country Club.  He earned $600 from the $3,465 purse here.

Peters Outlasts Abbott, Weather
June 16, 2008

JUPITER, Fla. - Justin Peters of Plantation overcame a double bogey to shoot 69 and win Monday on the Minor League Golf Tour at Abacoa Golf Club.  After birdies at the third, fourth and fifth holes, Peters made double bogey at the eighth, birdied the ninth and 10th and parred the last eight holes.  Matt Abbott was second with a -2 under par 70.  After the second lightning delay, play resumed at 5:20pm with the final group finishing at 7:15pm.

Mother nature provided a perfectly timed lightning
delay that allowed the players to see the final three holes of the US Open Playoff

It was Peters 13th MLGT title, his second this year. He also won at Abacoa on May 28.  He earned $800 from the $4,418 purse.  Juan Weissenberg and Derrick Bohannon tied for third at -1 under par 71.  Event Results

JUSTIN HICKS LEADS US OPEN
with -3 Under par 68

June 12, 2008

La Jolla, CA - Sixteen time Minor League Golf Tour winner and current 2007 MLGT Tour Champion Justin Hicks is leading the US Open, the first player in the clubhouse with a three under par 68.  Earlier this week I asked Justin for the details on how he made it into the US Open as an alternate.   Here is an excerpt from his email:

"Basically, I shot one over at my local qualifier where we had roughly 60 players for 4 spots.  There were about a dozen players from the previous week's Nationwide Tour event an a handful of PGA Tour players from the AT&T in Atlanta.  I was in a playoff with 6 other players for 2 spots.  After making pars on the first couple of holes (9 an 18), one player made a birdie and was out, Peter Tomasulo, and three others had made a bogey.  So it was down to me and a Clemson player who happened to drive it 350 off the tee.  On our 7th playoff hole he made birdie and I was only able to make another par."

"The USGA called me the following week and told me that as 1st alternate out of my site that I was in the sectional qualifier if I wanted to play due to Ryuji Imada being exempt after being in the top ten on the money list.  So I was given his spot at the Columbus qualifier.  We used two courses, the Ohio State University Scarlet course and Brookside CC.  There were 23 spots and probably 140 players.  Two under in the morning and two under in the afternoon got me in a playoff....11 for 7 spots.  A lot of big names there Love/Couples, including the playoff.  Tom Pernice, Eric Axley, Steve Marino in the first group of 5, followed by myself, Chad Campbell, and Rocco Mediate in the second group of 6.  I made birdie on the first hole from about 15 feet and carded one of two birdies out of all 11 of us including Rocco's birdie and that was it."

Hicks Struggles Friday, Will Play Weekend
June 13, 2008

La Jolla, CA - After sharing the first round lead at the US Open with an opening round 68, Justin Hicks fell back into the pack and is at +6 over par going into the weekend.

The Detroit Free Press reported that after the first hole Hick's group was warned by tournament officials that it was five minutes behind its allotted pace of play.  "Having the lead in the Open is not something I deal with on a daily basis," Hicks said. "And when you accompany that with 'Oh, yeah, by the way, you're behind. You need to pick it up' ... that kind of got me going in a gear that I wasn't really wanting to play in."  On the sixth hole, Hicks' group officially was put on the clock.  From that point forward, each player was given 40 seconds to hit each shot.

Justin Hicks Shoots 75 Saturday
June 14, 2008

La Jolla, CA - Justin Hicks shot a +4 over par 75 on Saturday as most of the field backed up under difficult US Open conditions.  Justin's round was one better than a pair of players with three majors apiece, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh, who both shot 76 in the third round.

Ryan Howison Wins Weather Shortened Event
May 22, 2008

Jupiter, Fla. - Ryan Howison was awarded the victory after an afternoon storm halted play during Thursday's event at Abacoa Golf Club. He had a score of 42, three under par for 11 holes, the number of holes the days last group had finished when play was suspended.

Howison, who lives in Abacoa, was four under par for 16 holes. Steve Hart, who had finished at four under par 68, was two under par for his first eleven holes--tied for second place with Brian Anderson.

Thursday's rain shortened event was the fifth time (in over 400 playing days) since the tour was founded in 2004 that an event did not go the distance and the Offical Tournament guidelines, as follows, were applied.

The goal of The Minor League Golf Tour is to complete scheduled events. The tournament committee and players will make their best effort to complete each round and tournament as scheduled. If the entire field completes at least 50% of the scheduled event (9 holes of an 18 hole event, 18 holes of a 36 hole event) it will be considered an Official Tournament. The total number of holes counted will be equal to the number that the final group completes.

There was $270 in the skins pot with three $90 skins out. Steve Hart birdied #3, Matt Abbott birdied #4 and Scott Ford birdied #9.

Mike Auterson Birdies 18 To Back Up Victory Prediction!
April 25, 2008

HIALEAH, Fla. – After firing a six under par 66 on Wednesday and losing to a birdie by Scott Ford on the first playoff hole, Mike Auterson said he was going to win at Country Club of Miami on Friday.  Unless your name is Tiger that is a pretty bold prediction, but
Auterson of Milford, Ohio knew his game was firing on all cylinders.
In regulation, Auterson eagled the par-5 13th hole on the West course and added four birdies and five bogeys.

A two-shot swing at the 18th hole proved decisive as Auterson birdied to win by 71-72 when, a few minutes later, Kris Lim of Coral Springs bogeyed.  Lim had three birdies and as many bogeys.  Auterson earned $550, Lim $450, from the $2,550 purse.

Dave Clodfelter was third by himself at one over par 73 in only his second event since becoming a father of twin boys.
