October is Range
Finder Trial Month! |
 |
JUPITER, FLA –
Essentially we are going
to put to the test the
United States
Golf Associations
decision 14-3/0.5 which permits the use of distance measuring
devices as a local rule.
The decision to not allow them has been based upon the
following. They are not allowed on the Nationwide or PGA
Tours (which is where most of you are training to advance to)
and that it potentially gives the player with a device an
advantage over one who does not have a device.
The valid arguments by players which have caused us to revisit
our position is PGA and Nationwide Tour Players have yardage
books and caddies that provide them with similar information to
what can be obtained with a device---information that is not
reasonably available on many of the courses we play.
 |
The
second argument is that if better, legal equipment is
available, be it a new driver, new ball or distance measuring
device, that it is each players choice to decide if it works
for them. |
So----we are going to give it a try. Issues that arise,
such as how sharing devices may negatively effect pace of play,
are going to be closely observed and evaluated to help us
figure out if distance measuring devices work for our tour.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Hector Zapata Brannon Sawyer and
Amateur Scott Turner all finished the 36-hole September Major
at four under par.
On the first playoff hole Turner rolled his twenty foot birdie
attempt to tap in distance and Sawyer made his par putt from
about six feet---seconds before Zapata would miss his birdie
try from a foot closer. Zapata's putter would let him
down again on the next hole when he was eliminated with a three
putt bogey.
Brannon's birdie attempts on the second and third playoff holes
holes were agonizingly close to going in, and on the fourth
hole his 35 foot birdie attempt would finish a couple inches
past the hole. Scott would make a four foot par putt to
continue the playoff.
Sawyer hit a perfect tee ball on the par five fifth hole, with
his second ending up a few feet left of the green. After
losing his tee shot right Turner would hit a 200+ yard shot
from the rough with a hybrid that flew under a pine tree and
skipped once before ending up just short of the greenside
bunker. Turner would get up and down for birdie and
the win.
Since Scott Turner is an amateur, the USGA allows for up to a
maximum of $750 per event in winnings in the form of
merchandise or gift certificate. The remaining $250 of
the $1,000 first place allotment was divided between Brannon Sawyer
and Hector Zapata.

PALM CITY, Fla. - Lloyd Warwick followed up his first round 71
with a four under par 68 on Tuesday to catch first round leader Justin Hicks
who shot the same scores in reverse.
Playoffs are usually good experience and drama but
with Tropical Storm Ernesto set to arrive early Wednesday,
Warwick and Hicks were declared co-champions and awarded $1,125
each.
During the 36 hole event Justin Hicks had six birdies and an
eagle, playing the first three holes at Hammock Creek six under
par while Lloyd Warwick spread his 10 birdies evenly throughout
the course.
Greg Douglas and Brannon Sawyer finished third and fourth
respectively, followed by Mark Zanotti and Lee Stroever who
tied for fifth. A thumb injury has sidelined Stroever for
