Stephen Grant birdies last hole to get to 4-under par, wins by 1

JUPITER, Fla. – Stephen Grant of Palm Beach Gardens fired a four under par 68 Tuesday at Abacoa Golf Club to score his second victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. Knowing he needed a birdie on the last hole, Grant sank a 24 footer to edge past three players, Chris Scialo of New City, NY, Scott Hawley from Shrewsbury, MA, and Frank Dully the Head Golf Professional at Kernwood CC in Salem, MA, who had already posted 69s. They ended up tied for second among 52 starters.

Overall, Grant made five birdies and a bogey, earning $950 from the $6,330 purse. Then he headed back home to Ireland to prepare for European PGA Tour qualifying later this year. Grant’s only previous MLGT victory was on March 7, 2008, at Inverrary Country Club in Lauderhill.

The MLGT has played 124 tournaments this year. Two more are scheduled before the Thanksgiving weekend break: Thursday, Links @ Madison Green, Royal Palm Beach, and Monday, Jacaranda GC-East, Plantation.

There was $270 in the skins pot with 6 skins out worth $45 each.
