Ben Hartman wins Playoff over Sal Spallone with birdie

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Ben Hartman of West Palm Beach birdied the first playoff hole to edge Sal Spallone of Vero Beach to earn the victory Friday on the Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour.

After they tied at five under par 67 on the Estate course at PGA National, Hartman sank a nine footer at the par-4 first hole for the win. Spallone, bidding for his sixth MLGT title, two-putted from 25 feet. It was Hartman’s second MLGT victory, his first coming on May 2 at The Falls Country Club in Lake Worth.

In regulation, Hartman had eight birdies and three bogeys, while Spallone made an eagle, five birdies and a double bogey. Hartman earned $850, Spallone $580, from the $4,950 purse.

Jim Fitzpatrick of Stratford, CT finished third with 4-under par 68 followed by 5 players at 3-under par 69.

The MLGT plays three 18-hole tournaments next week: Monday, Indian Spring CC, Boynton Beach; Wednesday, Abacoa GC, Jupiter; and Thursday at Miccosukee Country Club in Miami, home of the Nationwide Tour Miccosukee Championship.

There was $250 in the skins pot with 5 skins out worth $50 each.
