Jacob Korb's birdies on 17 and 18 not quite enough to hold off Johnson

PALM CITY, Fla. – David Johnson of Palm Bay edged Jacob Korb of Newtown Square, Pa., by 66-67 in the Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour event Wednesday at The Evergreen Club.

After each made three birdies on the front nine, Johnson, 24, and Korb, 31, were still tied after 15 holes. Then Johnson finished birdie-eagle-par on the last three holes while Korb closed par-birdie-birdie. It was Johnson’s third MLGT win. He earned $600 from the $2,570 purse. Korb, who received $450, has eight MLGT titles.

Korb, who was playing with Q-School Contest leader Jimmy Lytle, needed a little more help from Lytle who finished in a tie for third place with Mike Stern. Both Korb and Stern needed a win to close the gap with Lytle, who will win the final Q-School Contest of 2011 tomorrow.

There was $110 in the skins pot with 9 skins out worth $12.22 each
