Bobby Collins wins final match over Mike Stern 1up

Stern and Collins go down to the last putt on 18 to decide winner

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Bobby Collins of Palm Beach Gardens took control on the back nine Thursday and won the fifth annual Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour Match Play Championship at Indian Spring Country Club.

Two down at the turn to Mike Stern of Orlando on the par-71 West course, Collins made five birdies on the next six holes for a 1-up victory. They halved the 10th with birdies when Collins made a 20 footer moments after Stern missed an eagle putt. Then Collins won the 11th, 13 and 14th with birdies, they halved the 15th with birdies and the last three holes with pars. “The 10th hole was a real turning point,” Collins told tournament director Jimmy Jones after the game.

It was Collins’ fifth MLGT victory and he earned $2,000. Runnerup Stern, still looking for his first victory, received $1,000. Each won four matches to reach the finals.

Play began with a qualifying round Tuesday.
