MIAMI, Fla. – Jon McLean of Weston fired an opening round of eight under par 63 and held on Friday to win by two strokes in a Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour event at Miccosukee Country Club. McLean won by two strokes over Nicholas Thompson of Coral Springs, 133 to 135, in a battle of Nationwide Tour players.

Leading by five Thursday, McLean closed with 70 to outlast Thompson’s 68-67. In 36 holes, McLean made 10 birdies, eight the first round, and had his only bogey at the first hole Friday. Thompson totaled 13 birdies but had three bogeys each day. It was McLean’s fourth MLGT title. He earned $1,350 from the $5,335 purse. Thompson, second among 17 starters, received $1,025.

In August, McLean made two holes-in-one in nine holes enroute to a course record seven under par 20 at the Legends Scoring 9 at the Jim McLean Golf Center in Fort Worth, Texas. He aced the 145-yard first and the 122-yard eighth holes. Jim McLean, Jon’s dad, is the No. 4 instructor in Golf Digest’s national rankings.

The MLGT has three 18-hole tournaments next week: Monday, Jacaranda-East, Plantation; Tuesday, Bear Lakes-Links, West Palm Beach; and Thursday, Ironhorse CC, West Palm Beach. There will be a senior division in the event at Bear Lakes.
