Birdie-Birdie Finish (65) earns Tim Turpen 17th MLGT Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Tim Turpen of West Palm Beach birdied the last two holes Monday to edge playing partner Dan McCarthy of Palm Beach Gardens by a shot, 65 to 66, for his 17th victory on the Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour.

McCarthy took the early lead at Ocean Breeze Golf Club with an eagle to Turpen’s birdie at the par-5 first hole on the South nine. Turpen fell another stroke behind with bogey at the second hole, then McCarthy birdied the third to go up by three. Turpen caught up with consecutive birdies at 4, 5 and 6, McCarthy went ahead again with birdie at No. 11 and both birdied the 13th and 15th holes to set up Turpen’s furious finish on the North nine.

Turpen earned $700, McCarthy $525, from the $3,050 purse. McCarthy has three MLGT wins.

The MLGT’s 124th tournament of the year drew 24 players. A 36-hole event is scheduled Wednesday and Thursday at Jacaranda GC-East in Plantation.

There was $130 in the skins pot with 7 skins out worth $18.60 each.
