Tim Turpen birdies first extra hole to win playoff over Brenton Flynn

WELLINGTON, Fla. – Tim Turpen of West Palm Beach birdied the first extra hole for the victory Monday at The Wanderers Club as the Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour resumed after a two-week summer break.

Turpen, 36, and Brenton Flynn, 27, of Nashville, Tenn., had tied at four under par 68, each with six birdies and two bogeys. In the playoff which began at the par-4 first hole, Turpen sank a 12-foot birdie putt from below the hole moments after Floyd two-putted for par from 40 feet.

It was Turpen’s 16th victory since he joined the MLGT in July, 2006, his first since August, 2010. He earned $810 from the $4,305, raising his career earnings to $66,497.50. Flynn had made three MLGT starts last October, earning $815 with a best finish of a tie for second. He received $575 Monday.

Erik Asp and Bobby Collins of Palm Beach Gardens tied for fourth with Cris Damiano of Jupiter and Sal Spallone from Vero Beach at 2-under par 70. Host PGA Professional Justin Thompson finished T10 after shooting even par 72.

There was $200 in the skins pot with 2 skins out worth $100 each.
