Ducan needed two birdies and two pars to seal the deal in overtime
Wednesday, September 21, 2011
PALM CITY, Fla. – Greg Duncan of Edinburgh, Scotland, earned his first victory on the Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour in a playoff Wednesday at The Evergreen Club. Duncan outlasted Scott Marino of Tequesta and Brandon Smith of West Palm Beach after they tied at three under par 69. Smith was eliminated with par-5 on the first extra hole. Duncan and Marino halved the second with par-4s and the third with birdie-4s. At the fourth, Duncan won with par-3 after Marino missed his par from five feet. Duncan, 20, earned $600 from the $2,320 purse. Smith and Marino, tied for second among 19 starters, got $387.50 apiece. The younger brother of the PGA Tour’s Steve Marino, Scott finished third last week at Cypress Wood Golf Club in Spring, Texas, in a pre-qualifier for this year’s first stage qualifying for the 2012 PGA Tour. Marino has not won on the MLGT. Smith has nine victories, two as an amateur before he turned pro in 2009. |
