Zac Oakley fires a 3-under par 69 to capture 5th MLGT victory

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. – Zac Oakley of Lewes, Del., fired a three under par 69 Thursday on the Links at Madison Green for a two-stroke victory on the Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour. After a birdie on the sixth hole, Oakley made the turn in 35, then had four birdies and two bogeys on the back nine.

It was the third start of the week for Oakley, 29, a winter resident of Palm City, and his fifth victory since he joined the MLGT in November, 2006. Last March before heading north for the summer, Oakley also won at Madison Green, on the third playoff hole when he outlasted teenage phenom Alexis Thompson and Canadian Alexandre Ouellette after they had tied at 68.

The 115th tournament of the year had 14 starters for a $1,778 purse. Three consecutive one-day events are scheduled next week: Tuesday, PGA National-Estate, Palm Beach Gardens; Wednesday, Jacaranda GC, Plantation; and Thursday, Ocean Breeze GC, Boca Raton.

There was $70 in the skins pot with five skins out worth $14 each.
