Dan McCarthy's 14 birdies earns him his 5th GOLFslinger Tour win

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, N.Y., shot the low score of the tournament, an eight under par 64 on Tuesday, enroute to his fifth victory on the Golfslinger.com Tour.

Playing the South course at Fountains Country Club, McCarthy, 27, bogeyed the third hole he played Monday and was error-free the rest of the way, posting 67-64—131 to win by two shots. He made 14 birdies, including the par-5 fifth, 12th and 15th holes and the par-4 eighth and 11th both days.

He earned $2,000 from the $7,260 purse, raising his career earnings to about $20,000 in addition to his five wins since October, 2007.

Justin Peters and Derrick Bohannon tied for 2nd place, follwed by 1st round co-leader Brett Stegmaier in solo 4th. Sunny Kim fired a final round 65 to tie for 5th place with Ben Silverman who closed with a 66.

The final round of the 7th $1,000 Web.com Monday Bonus Contest is Thursday at PGA National's Champion Course, the home of the PGA Tour Honda Classic. Going into the final round of the contest, Dan McCarthy leads with $2,000.00, Sunny Kim $1,771.67, Brett Stegmaier $1,475.00, Derrick Bohannon $1,425.00 and Justin Peters $1,324.17. A win Thursday by Dan or Sunny would lock up the bonus, and if any of the other three win, a top finish by Dan or Sunny would be necessary to keep them from earning the bonus.

The 8th $1,000 Web.com bounus contest starts Monday (Aug 20) and the 9th contest starts September 4th.

There were 22 starters who endured an hour and 20 minute delay mid-day because of rain and lightning.

There was $110 in the Day 1 Skins Pot with 2 Skins out worth $55 each.
Sunny Kim birdied the 9th hole and Matt Springer birdied 18.

There was $100 in the Day 2 Skins Pot with 6 Skins out worth $16.67 each.
