JUPITER, Fla. – Greg O’Mahony of Tequesta made his birdies in bunches Wednesday as he fired an eight under par 64 at Abacoa Golf Club to claim his 16th victory on the Golfslinger.com Tour.
O’Mahony birdied Nos. 2 and 3, then the fifth and sixth holes, to turn in 32. On the back, he birdied 10 and 11, bogeyed 12 and birdied 13, then closed with birdies at the 17th and 18th to win by one stroke.
Sal Spallone of Vero Beach also birdied the 18th but was a shot short of a chance for his sixth Golfslinger win. After a bogey at the first hole, Spallone eagled the par-5 second and added six birdies for 65 to finish second among 75 players, the largest field of the year.
Ryan Armour of Jupiter aced the par-3 eighth hole and tied for third with Liam Friedman of Lackawanna, NY on 67.
A graduate of Jupiter High School and Nova Southeastern University where he was a three-time NCAA Division II All-America selection, O’Mahony, 26, earned $1,000 from the $8,925 purse, raising his career earnings to $55,005 since he joined Golfslinger in August, 2009. Earlier that summer, O’Mahony won the Palm Beach Open as an amateur.
