Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. – Greg O’Mahony of Tequesta fired a 4-under par 32 on the back nine Monday to shoot 66 and qualify for The PGA Tour Honda Classic.
O'Mahony, who tends to rise to the occasion in big events, won the 54 hole 2010 MLGT Sunshine State Classic by 3 shots and is the current Fuzion Minor League Golf Tour Champion, winning the 36 hole 2010 Tour Championship at Abacoa in December by four shots.
O'Mahony will be playing in the event with five other players that have won on the Minor League Golf Tour, 2007 MLGT Tour Championship winner Justin Hicks, Tom Gillis, Nate Smith, Lee Rinker and Marc Turnesa. Marc Turnesa has won a PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour event, Justin Hicks has won 2 Nationwide Tour events, and Tom Gillis and Nate Smith have each won a Nationwide Tour event.
O'Mahony is no stranger to PGA National's Champion course. In June, he shot 67 in a Minor League Golf Tour event on the course to get into a playoff with Sunny Kim, who won with a birdie on the first extra hole. If you believe in the old golf adage, there are horses for courses, Greg O'Mahony seems to have the pedigree to do well this week.
