LaQuinta, Ca - Starting Wednesday, 172 players will start a 108 hole marathon that will result in 25 players getting 2013 PGA Tour status. This will be the last year the PGA Tour will award cards for its main tour through Q-School.
Q-school will be changing next year from an event that awards PGA Tour and Web.com Tour exemptions, to a tournament that only provides players with a path to the Web.com Tour. That fact alone will be enough to ramp up the pressure on players a notch higher than in previous years, making this week, the last shot at going "all the way" to the PGA Tour.
While it is true that all players in the finals field this week will have at least some status on the 2013 Web.com Tour, and that means they still have a chance to make the big tour in 2014. But not one player in qualifying school next year will be playing for a PGA Tour card. That process will be replaced with a new qualifying series of tournaments to award PGA Tour cards.

He has been playing on the GOLFslinger Tour since he was a 17 years old pro back in 2006, and has won 7 times this fall during his preparation for Q-School.  Dan McCarthy won 4 times on the GOLFslinger Tour in 2012, including twice in November as he prepared for second stage of Q-School. McCarthy finished T5 at Panama City Beach, Florida. |

Steve LeBrun, who has won 37 times and earned over $100,000 on the GOLFslinger Tour, won a 2011 GOLFslinger Tour Q-School contest that paid his 2011 PGA Tour Q-School Entry Fee. At Q-School he earned status on the Web.com Tour and finished 56th on the 2012 Web.com Tour Money List. This earned him exempt status on the 2013 Web.com Tour, but his T7 finish at second stage gives him a shot to play on the biggest stage in 2013. |

Nicholas Thompson has 1 GOLFslinger Tour victory and 9 top five finishes. He won on the Nationwide Tour and was a PGA Tour member 2008-2010. Nicholas finished 22nd on the 2012 WEB.com Tour money list, earning a 2013 PGA Tour Card, but will play to try to improve his ranking.
