PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Sandro Piaget of Jupiter parred the last 10 holes Monday at the Santa Lucia River Club, hanging on for his fifth victory on the Golfslinger.com Tour.
Piaget, 25, birdied the second, fifth and seventh holes and bogeyed the par-4 eighth, turned in 34, then held off Brandon Smith, 30, of West Palm Beach, runnerup at 71 among 18 starters. Smith birdied three (5, 10 and 11) and bogeyed the fourth and seven holes.
Piaget received $600 from the $2,340 purse, raising his career earnings to $24,244 since 2007. Smith collected $500. He has 15 Golfslinger wins. Both Piaget and Smith won twice as amateurs.
This was the 39th Golfslinger tournament of the year. Two more are scheduled this week: Wednesday, West Palm Beach GC, and Thursday, Martin Downs CC, Palm City. The Tour’s second “major championship” of the year is scheduled April 23-24 at Abacoa GC in Jupiter with the winner receiving $10,000.
