JUPITER, Fla. – Eric Cole of Orlando, FL birdied the 103-yard 16th hole twice Monday at Jupiter Dunes Golf Club enroute to winning a 27-hole tournament on the par-3 course. Cole edged Greg O’Mahony of Tequesta, FL by 75-76.
They played the back nine, front nine, and back nine a second time in the unique event. After he bogeyed his first hole, the 10th, Cole made birdies at Nos. 16, 17, 18, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 16, with another bogey at 15 the second time through. After opening with 10 straight pars, O’Mahony bogyed the second hole, then birdied 3, 4, 6, 9, 10 and 11.
Cole earned $475, O’Mahony $375, from the $1,500 purse. They won the Minor League Golf Tour's annual Par-3 team event on the same course in December, 2012.
Two conventional 18-hole tournaments are also scheduled this week: Tuesday at Plantation Preserve in Plantation, and Thursday at Atlantis CC near Lake Worth.
Congratulations to Ryan Armour, Matt Ceravolo, and James Braunsberg for making aces in the event. Amour and Braunsberg both aced the 103 yard 16th hole and Ceravolo aced the 105 yard 6th hole.
