JUPITER, Fla. – Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ontario, birdied the fourth playoff hole to win a duel between Minor League Golf Tour veterans Wednesday at Abacoa Golf Club. Silverman outlasted Eric Cole of Orlando, FL after they tied at six-under par 66.
Silverman and Cole halved their first three extra holes – the seventh with par-4's, the eighth with bogey-4's and the ninth with par-4's. At the par-5 10th, Cole reached the green in two and Silverman hit his second shot just short of the green. Silverman chipped to within 3 feet and after Cole missed a 5-foot birdie putt, Silverman holed his short birdie putt for the win.
In regulation, Silverman bogeyed the first hole but then made seven birdies, while Cole eagled the par-5 second and added five birdies and a bogey.
Silverman earned $900, Cole $700, from the $5,070 purse. Silverman, 28, has 29 wins and has earned $114,711.80 since September, 2010, Cole joined the MLGT in August, 2009, has won 27 times and earned $69,658.42.
The tour’s 98th tournament of the year drew 39 entries. Next on the schedule: Thursday at Fountains CC in Lake Worth.
