WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Canadian Christian Westhorpe of Toronto was the only player to break 70 Monday at West Palm Beach Golf Club and it led to his first victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
Westhorpe, 25, made five birdies, four in six holes midway through the day, and bogeyed twice, at Nos. 7 and 15. He birdied 4, 8, 10, 11 and 13, winning by two shots. Westhorpe received $700 from the $3,535 purse, raising his career earnings to $3,938 since September, 2012. He had back-to-back ties for second in the summer of 2013.
There was a four way tie for 2nd at one-under par 71 including Ian Thimble from Hyde Park, MA, Jimmy Lytle from Ocean Ridge, FL, Austin Powell from Jupiter, FL, and Philipp Muller from Waldmohr, Germany.
The MLGT has two more tournaments this month and seven in December. The 106th event of the year drew 27 players.
