JUPITER, Fla. - Dan McCarthy made a hole-in-one and David Smith birdied the second playoff hole as they teamed up Monday at Jupiter Dunes to win the 8th annual Par-3 Team Trilogy on the Minor League Golf Tour.
McCarthy, of Syracuse, NY, and Smith, of Ruston, LA, outlasted Steve Ford of Melbourne, FL and Robin Byrd of Satellite Beach, FL after they tied at 13 under par 68 for three nines on the oceanside par-3 course.
McCarthy aced the 112-yard fourth hole with a 54 degree sand wedge, then Smith hit his tee shot to within a foot for birdie at the 98-yard 11th hole. Moments earlier Ford missed a birdie putt from 15 feet. The teams halved the first extra hole, No. 10.
There were 36 teams playing for $6,120. They played a scramble on the back nine, modified alternate shot on the front nine, then returned to the back for a four-ball stroke play event and the playoff.
In regulation, McCarthy and Smith made 11 birdies and the hole-in-one while Ford and Byrd had 13 birdies. Neither team made a bogey. It was McCarthy's 41st MLGT victory and the 6th for Smith.

27 of the 36 teams entered the optional $40 skins game building a pot of $1,080. Dan McCarthy's hole in one on the 3rd hole earned him and David Smith the whole skins pot.

The Minor League Golf Tour finishes its 12th season with two 18-hole events later this week, at Hammock Creek GC, Palm City, on Wednesday and the Holiday Team Championship on Thursday at Atlantis CC, its 115th of the year.
