PLANTATION, Fla. – Brandon Meltzer of Melville, NY, second off the tee at 7:45 a.m., Monday, returned with a seven under par 64 and won by three shots in a Minor League Golf Tour event on the East course at Jacaranda Golf Club.
Meltzer, 25, did not make a bogey, scoring three birdies in a row starting at the ninth hole and also birdied Nos. 1, 3, 14 and 18, He received $525 from the $2,450 purse and another $300 from an optional bonus pool for a total of $825. Since joining the MLGT in January, 2007, Meltzer has three victories and earnings of $4,758 in 22 starts.
Tied for second at 67 among 25 entries were Steve LeBrun of West Palm Beach, FL, who eagled the par-5 14th hole and also had four birdies and two bogeys, and Daniel Obremski of Pittsburgh, PA on five birdies and a bogey. Each collected $375 from the main purse, $187.50 from the bonus pool and $50 in a skins game for a total of $612.50.
