PALM CITY, Fla. – Olin Browne Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL gave his Dad something to shoot for Thursday when he won on the Minor League Golf Tour for the fourth time. The younger Browne posted a four under par 67 on the Osprey Creek course at Martin Downs Country Club to win by two strokes.
The senior Browne is in the field this weekend at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic in Biloxi. He has won twice on the PGA Tour Champions, including the U.S. Senior Open in 2011. Olin Sr. and Jr. were the pro division winners in December at the Leon “Pop” Sikes Father-Son at Atlantis Country Club near Lake Worth.
Olin Jr. did not make a bogey Thursday, scoring birdies at Nos. 2, 3, 8 and 17. He received $1,000 from the $6,240 purse and an additional $223 from an optional bonus pool, raising his career MLGT earnings to $16,447 since July, 2009.
Patricio Salem, Sandro Piaget and Max Buckley tied for second at 69 among the 46 starters in the MLGT’s 34th tournament of the year. Three 18-hole events are scheduled next week: Monday, Jacaranda GC, Plantation; Wednesday, Jupiter Dunes GC; and Thursday, Jupiter CC.
