PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Steve LeBrun of West Palm Beach, FL, held off all challengers with pars on his last eight holes Wednesday to capture his 54th victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. LeBrun birdied Nos. 1, 5, 6 and 10 and bogeyed the par-3 seventh hole on the Champion course at PGA National.
A frequent player on the PGA and Web.com tours in recent years, LeBrun edged Olin Browne Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL, who shot 70 with birdies at the seventh and 10th holes. Browne won a 36-hole tournament on the Champion course Monday and Tuesday at eight under par 136.
LeBrun received $950 from the $5,435 purse and an additional $232 from an optional bonus pool for a total of $1,182. This boosted his career earnings to $150,463, third all-time for the MLGT, which began in August, 2004. Browne, second among 37 starters earned $650 from the main purse and $191 from the bonus pool.
A big thank you to PGA National Resort and Spa for hosting this great event on the Champ Course. The course was in tournament condition and provided a great test for the players.
The Minor League Golf Tour's 3rd WEB.com Q-School Contest of 2017 starts in just 5 days. The contest is comprised of back to back 2-day events. The first half will be held at Indian Spring Country Club on 5/22-23 and the second half will be held at PGA National Estates on 5/24-25. The Minor League Golf Tour is guaranteeing a full paid entry into 2017 Web.com Q-school for the low 4-day score of those players entered in the contest. If more than 25 players participate in the contest, the extra money will go towards the 2nd place finisher's (in the contest) 2017 Web.com Q-school entry. The first 2-day event entry is $390, the 2nd 2-day entry fee is $340, and the Web.com Q-School contest entry fee is $200. Both of the 2-day events will have prize pools and optional skins games and optional bonus pools.
