DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Adam Svensson of Surrey, British Columbia, made four birdies on each nine Thursday at Seagate Country Club enroute to his second victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
At eight under par 64, Svensson, 23, edged veteran Justin Hicks, 43, of Wellington by two strokes. Hicks also played bogey-free golf with three birdies each out and back in for 66. Hicks has 38 MLGT wins.
It was Svensson’s sixth MLGT start but his first this year. He made four appearances in January, 2016, winning at Martin Downs in Palm City. He received $600 from the $3,210 purse. He had three top 10 finishes in 2017 on the Web.com Tour and just narrowly missed getting his PGA Tour card for 2018. We're glad he used the Minor League Golf Tour to keep his game sharp before heading out of town for the PGA Tour Monday qualifier next week.
Hicks totaled $811 with $500 from the main purse, $266 from an optional bonus pool and $45 in the skins game for career earnings of $94,214. He won three times on the Web.com Tour a decade ago.
The MLGT’s 106th tournament of the year drew 27 entrants. Next week’s schedule starts with a rare Sunday event at Winston Trails near Lake Worth, then a 36-holer Tuesday and Wednesday at Plantation Preserve in Plantation.
