PALM CITY, Fla. – Matthew Jennings of Prairie City, Iowa, birdied the last five holes on the front nine Thursday and went on to his second victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. Playing the Osprey Creek course at Martin Downs Country Club, Jennings, 26, posted an eight under par 63 to win by a stroke.
After a birdie at the second hole, Jennings birdied Nos. 5 through 9, then completed his bogey-free effort with birdies at the 12th and 17th holes. He earned $1,000 from the $6,645 purse. A seasonal resident of nearby Stuart, Jennings scored his first MLGT title last March at TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs.
Mike Miller of Brewster, NY, twice made three straight birdies on the back nine but came up one short at 64, tied for second among 49 starters. Steve LeBrun of West Palm Beach also finished at seven under with eight birdies and a bogey. LeBrun holds the MLGT career record with 61 wins. Each received $650 from the main purse, $218 from an optional bonus pool and $105 in the skins game for a total of $973 apiece.
