PARKLAND, Fla. – Max Buckley of Rye, N.Y., birdied six of seven holes on the back nine and added one more on the first playoff hole Monday to earn his third victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. Buckley outlasted Chris Wiatr of Jupiter and Woodbury, Conn., after they had tied at seven under par 65 at Parkland Golf Club.
The playoff started at the par-4 14th hole where Wiatr drove his tee ball into the water right of the fairway. He reached the green on his third shot and narrowly missed a 40-foot par putt. Meanwhile, Buckley put his drive in the fairway, his second shot on the green and sank an 18 footer for the win. Wiatr is still looking for his first win on the MLGT.
After turning in 34 with birdies at the fifth and sixth holes, Buckley birdied Nos. 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16, then bogeyed par-4 17th. He received $850 from the $4,475 purse. Wiatr birdied four of five holes midway through his round, at 9, 10, 12 and 13, and did not make a bogey. Second among 35 starters, Wiatr collected $810, including $210 from an optional bonus pool.
