LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Nicolas Cavero birdied the last four holes Monday to pull out a one-stroke win in a Minor League Golf Tour tournament at Atlantic National Golf Club. Cavero, 25, of Valencia, Venezuela, made an eagle, a birdie and two bogeys on the front nine enroute to a five under par 66. It was his fourth MLGT victory, two of which were in January. He collected $725 from the $3,575 purse. This raised his career earnings to $11,012 since September, 2016.
Tied for second at 67 among 27 starters were Sunny Kim of Queens, NY, on an eagle, five birdies and three bogeys, and Grant Schroeder of Montgomery, TX, an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys. Each received $540 from the purse and Schroeder picked up an additional $183 from the optional bonus pool. Cavero and Schroeder eagled the par-5 seventh hole, Kim the par-5 14th.
Today's event was the first of three 1-day events that make up 2019 Monday Qualifying School Contest #3. The players with the lowest cumulative 3-day score will win a $1,000 bonus to go compete in a Monday Qualifier on the PGA Tour or Web.com Tour. Nicolas Cavero will not be competing in tomorrow's event so Kim and Schroeder share the lead in the contest at 4 under par. Event #2 this week is Tuesday at Monarch CC followed by the conclusion of the contest at the Country Club of Coral Springs on Thursday.
