PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – James Driscoll of Brookline, MA, got a measure of revenge in a Minor League Golf Tour event Tuesday. Driscoll was the winner on the sixth hole of a playoff at Sandhill Crane. It was the MLGT’s longest playoff in nearly 13 months. On Oct. 31, 2019, Driscoll was beaten on the sixth extra hole by Mike Miller of Brewster, NY, at Indian Spring in Boynton Beach.
Driscoll, Alan Wagner of Miami, FL and John Duthie of Lansing, NY, had tied at five under par 67 here Tuesday. Duthie was eliminated on the first extra hole, the par-4 sixth. Driscoll finally won despite a bogey at the par-4 second when Wagner's tee shot ended up out of bounds. It was Driscoll’s second win since he joined the MLGT in Dec, 2007.
In regulation, Driscoll made six birdies before he bogeyed the final hole. Wagner had an eagle, six birdies and three bogeys, Duthie five birdies. Wagner has one previous MLGT victory, Duthie still searching for his first.
Driscoll collected $820 from the $4,410 purse, $183 from an optional bonus pool and $53.34 in the skins game for a total of $1,056.34.
Ryan Linton of Lake Forest, IL, had the lowest 54-hole score of the week, 13 under par 203, earning $1,000 toward a Monday qualifier on the PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour. He shot 69 Sunday to tie for second at Winston Trails, 66 Monday at Indian Spring, losing out in as playoff, and 68 to tie for fourth here Tuesday.
