CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Zach Zaback of Farmington, CT, fired a bogey-free 61 Tuesday for his 17th victory on the Minor League Golf Tour, his fourth win this year. This equaled the fourth-lowest score in the MLGT’s 18 year history.
Zaback scorched the Country Club of Coral Springs with nine birdies, winning by three shots. He received $1,000 from the $6,085 purse plus $210 from an optional bonus pool and $140 in skins for a total of $1,350. This raised his career earnings to $107,072 since October, 2016.
Earlier in the day both Zaback and Eric Cole were in a 10 for 1 playoff for the Corales Championship on the PGA Tour. The Monday qualifier was yesterday Monday 3/8 but darkness forced the playoff to resume Tuesday morning. Zaback was eliminated with a par on the first playoff hole. Cole went on the earn the spot with a birdie on the 5th extra hole and will tee it up on the PGA Tour March 25-28 in the Dominican Republic. With the early morning playoff resumption abd the late morning start at Coral Springs it worked out where they could compete in both in the same day.
Michael Buttacavoli of Miami Beach was second with 64 on seven birdies and a bogey, collecting $820.
The MLGT’s 25th tournament of the year drew 46 starters. The Stuart-based mini-tour plays Wednesday on the West course at Jacaranda Golf Club in Plantation.
