BOCA RATON, Fla. - University of Texas amateur Will Thomson from Naples, FL birdied the first playoff hole to win in his first start on the MLGT. He and Ricardo Celia tied in regulation at 9-under par 135. The first round leader Celia added 70 to his first round 65. Thomson came from two behind with a final round 68 to force extras. On the first playoff hole Celia was on the back fringe and chipped down to 2 feet for par. Thomson converted his 10 foot birdie putt for the win.
Per USGA rules Thomson was awarded $1,000 (the maximum). Celia took home the top prize of $1,650 plus $367 from the bonus pool for a total of $2,017. Second place was $1,250 so the additional $250 that Thomson could not accept was distribured throughout the purse.
