PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - 19 year old amateur Cal Hoskins held off PGA Tour player Rob Oppenheim in extra holes to win for the first time on the MLGT. Both men tied in regulation at 7-under par 137. Playing in the group ahead of Cal, Oppenheim finished eagle birdie to post 7-under par. Hoskins birdied 17 to get to -7 and a par on the last would mean extra holes were needed.
The duo halved the first 2 playoff holes with birdies then the next 4 with pars. On the 7th playoff hole Hoskins made a 6 foot par putt. Oppenheim was next from 3 feet and when his par putt lipped out Cal was declared the winner.
Per USGA rules of amateur status, the maximum Cal can earn is $1,000. First place was $2,500 so the remaining $1,500 was distrubuted throughout the rest of the purse.
Oppenheim won $2,00 from the $12,885 purse plus $466 from the bonus pool and $440 from the skins pot for a total of $2,906.
First round leader Matt Oshrine added 74 to his opening round 65 and finished in 5th place.
In a second day shootout Tuesday among players who shot 73 or higher Wednesday, Jimmy Hervol won $183 with a final round score of 66.
