PORT SAINT LUCIE, Fla. - Stephen Franken from Raleigh NC fired a course record setting final round 61 to come from behind and win at Astor Creek Golf & CC. He started the final round one behind Dan McCarthy but a bogey free ten birdie final round propelled him to a four shot win.
19 of the 49 players chose to enter the Qualifying School Contest #6 presented by Britto & Herman Injury Lawyers. Franken earned the $5k bonus to use towards his Q-School entry fee this fall.
In a second day shootout Thursday among players who shot 70 or higher Wednesday, Brandon Valvano won $214 with a final round score of 67.
PORT SAINT LUCIE, Fla. - Korn Ferry Tour member Dan McCarthy is making the most of an off week at home with an opening round of 9-under par 63 at Astor Creek Golf & CC. He did not make a bogey and had birdies at 4,5,8,11,12,16 and 18. He also eagled the par-5 13th.
Willy Pumarol, Bo Hoag, Stephen Franken and Michael Mays are right on his heels after rounds of 64. Day one saw a lot of red numbers as the scoring average for the field was 69.72.
