PALM CITY, Fla. – Aaron Murphy of Port St. Lucie won his first Fuzion Minor League Golf Tour event Wednesday, firing a three under par 69 at Hammock Creek. After twice following a bogey with a birdie on the front nine, Murphy birdied Nos. 12, 14 and 17 and won by a stroke. On the front, Murphy bogeyed 1 and 8 and birdied 2 and 9.
Murphy, 24, received $650 from the $3,160 purse, raising his earnings to $2,298 in 13 starts since March 30. He had previously had four top-10 finishes.
LPGA teenage rookie Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs shot 71, tied for fifth among 26 starters. Women played the course at 6,770 yards compared to 7,130 yards for men. The LPGA is in South Korea this week.
Two former men’s tour winners were also in the field and cashed checks: Brad Adamonis shot 73, tied for eighth, and Guy Boros had 74, tied for 10th.
The MLGT finishes October with a tournament at Hillcrest CC in Hollywood on Thursday, its 12th this month and 117th of the year.
There was $130 in the skins pot with 6 skins out worth $21.67 each.
