PALM CITY, Fla. – Charlie Harrison of Atlanta, GA, finished eagle-birdie for a two-stroke victory over Matt Hill of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, 65-67, in a Minor League Golf Tour event Thursday on Martin Downs’ Osprey Creek course.
Harrison claimed his first MLGT win with a birdie and a bogey on the front, then four birdies, at Nos. 10, 12, 15 and 18, and an eagle at the par-5 17th for an incoming 30. It was his lowest score since joining the tour in December 2015. He received $1,000 from the $7,550 purse to raise his career earnings to $7,918.
Harrison was a Big Break contestant in 2014 at Myrtle Beach, SC, on The Golf Channel.
Hill had five birdies and a bogey and received $700 for second place among 56 starters.
At 4:04pm lightning came within 5.4 miles of the golf course and play was suspended with 7 groups left on the golf course. The Minor League Golf Tour's policy is if lightning comes within 10 miles play will be suspended. Luckily, 49 minutes later, the incliment weather moved through the area and the tournament resumed and was able to be completed.
Three more 18-hole tournaments are scheduled next week: Monday, Palm Aire CC, Pompano Beach; Tuesday, Fountains CC, Lake Worth; and Thursday, Abacoa GC, Jupiter.
