JUPITER, Fla. – Chase Koepka of West Palm Beach, FL earned his 13th win on the Minor League Golf Tour, and his fourth Major, when he captured the 16th annual Tour Championship Wednesday at Abacoa Golf Club.
The younger brother of PGA Tour superstar Brooks Koepka, Chase equaled the tournament record of 132 on rounds of 68-64 winning by a pair over two-time former champion Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, NY, who shot consecutive 67's for 134.
Koepka made five birdies and a pair of bogeys Tuesday, seven birdies the final round. The only holes he birdied twice were the par-4 14th and par-5 17th. He also won 2016 Major II, 2018 Major I and 2020 Major I earlier this year on January 28th. His career earnings since joining the MLGT in June, 2016 total $68,513.
McCarthy won the MLGT’s Tour Championship in 2013 and 2017, both at Abacoa. He has 50 wins and earnings of $173,007 since joining the MLGT in October, 2007. In 36 holes here this week he had one eagle, nine birdies and three bogeys.
McCarthy won on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019 and is fighting hard to earn a PGA Tour card.
In a second day shootout Wednesay among players who scored 72 or higher Tuesday, Josh Hart and Evan Thornton tied at two under 69, receiving $206 apiece.
