PLANTATION, Fla. – Hernan Rey of Buenos Aires, Argentina, fired a seven under par 65 Friday to earn his ninth victory on the Golfslinger.com Tour, his first since June 1, 2009.
Playing the West course at Jacaranda Golf Club, Rey made five birdies on the front nine (Nos. 1, 2, 4, 6 and 9), bogeyed the 10th, birdied three in a row starting at the 12th, then parred in the last four holes. He earned $1,000 from the $5,335 purse.
Rey, who has been battling injury, seems to be finding his old form. The victory was his third top 5 finish in the last two weeks.
A 67 by Nick Bova of Bloomington, IL earned him $600 and a solo second place finish, while Kensington, Maryland's Will Coleman shot 69, putting him alone in third, one shot clear of a seven way tie for fourth place at 70.
The Golfslinger’s 18th tournament of the year had 44 entries. Three 18-hole events are scheduled next week: Monday, TPC at Eagle Trace, Coral Springs; Tuesday, Links at Madison Green, Royal Palm Beach; and Thursday, Champions Club at Summerfield, Stuart.
There was $210 in the skins pot with 4 skins out worth $52.50 each.
