DORAL, Fla. – Jon McLean of Weston birdied the final hole Sunday on a course designed by his father to edge Ryan Willis of Alpharetta, Ga., and win his fifth title on the Fuzion-Minor League Golf Tour.
McLean nipped Willis 69-70 on the McLean course at Doral Country Club. The course was created by Jim McLean, a renowned instructor who has a golf school headquartered at Doral with several branches nationwide.
The younger McLean had six birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. He earned $550 from the $1,801 purse, raising his MLGT cache to $17,484 since January, 2010. Willis made three birdies and as many bogeys and was second among 15 starters. It was Willis’ third MLGT start, his first since March. He received $400.
It was the MLGT’s 120th tournament of the year. Two more are scheduled this week, Tuesday at Ironhorse CC, West Palm Beach, and Thursday at Atlantis CC.
