Marvin King Goes Wire to Wire, Wins by 4

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Marvin King of Lewisville, Texas, was the only player to break 70 all three days as he won the 54-hole Minor League Golf Tour Summer Series Event #3 Wednesday at The Fountains Country Club.

King shot rounds of 68-67-67 for 202 on the South course, earning $3,000 from the $9,375 purse.  In 54 holes, he made 19 birdies and five bogeys and won by four strokes.  It was his 14th MLGT victory, the fourth this year.

Derrick Bohannan, who is second on the 2008 MLGT money list, finished second, moving him to within $595 of the top spot held by Steve Lebrun.  His rounds of 68-70-68 put him at 10-under par.

Jake Korb who finished solo third, Craig Matheson (5th) and Mike Auterson (6th) closed with 3-under par 69's.  Final round co-leader Brett Bergeron earned $1,000 and the third spot on the 2008 money list for his fourth place effort.

Brett Bergeron and Marvin King Share 3 Shot Lead

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Brett Bergeron shot a six under par 66 on Tuesday to gain a share of the lead with Marvin King at 9-under par through 36 holes.  King's 67 was one shot better than his opening round 68.  Jacob Korb moved up the leader board with a 5-under par 67 and Taylor Stewart was four shots better on day two with a 3-under par 69.

There was $130 in the skins pot with 5 skins out.  Each was worth $26. 

Brett Bergeron birdied #1 and #11, Jake Korb birded the second hole, Marvin King birdied the third hole, and Craig Matheson birdied the tenth hole.

Auterson, Bohannan and King Open with 4-under par 68's

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Mike Auterson, Derrick Bohannan and Marvin King shot 4-under par 68 in the opening round of the 3rd Summer Series Event at The Fountains South Course.  Jon Dipietrantonio and Brett Bergeron are a shot back at 3-under par 69. 

The winner of this 21 player event will receive $3,000.

Sam Spector birdied #4, Scott Turner birdied #10, Rick Slaght made birdie on #13 and Marvin King birdied the 18th hole.


* It is possible to make the cut and not earn a check. In this payout of 21 players, 11 spots will be paid.  If 14 players make the cut, only 11 of the 14 players playing in the final round will earn a check, unless there is a tie for 11th place

Ben Gardner Shoots 5-Under Par 67, Wins 1st MLGT Event!

BOCA RATON, Fla. - After a week of wet weather brought on by Tropical Storm Fay, the Minor League Golf Tour got back out on the course Thursday.  Ben Gardner birdied the last two holes Thursday at Ocean Breeze Golf Club for his first Minor League Golf Tour victory.

Gardner edged Adam Adams 67-68 on the South and North nines.  Gardner made seven birdies, including four on the last six holes, at Nos. 13, 15, 17 and 18.  He had two bogeys. Adams did not make a bogey and had four birdies.  All three players in the final group, Jacob Korb, Kris Maffet and Matt Springer, tied for third at 3-under par 69.

A former Florida Atlantic University golfer from Boca Raton, Gardner turned pro earlier this year. He earned $500 from the $2,300 purse. Adams, a mini-tour veteran from Coconut Creek, received $375.
