The Weather and Professionalism is the Story on a Wet Day at PGA
By Jay Slazinski
February 1, 2010

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – On a day when we all would have liked to be inside watching golf, 70 players honored their commitment to play---and teed it up in less than ideal conditions.  I would like to thank all of the players who played because you get it.  This is why The Minor League Golf Tour works.

The Minor League “Co-operative” Golf Tour
For many years we have run The Minor League Golf Tour to be the ultimate players tour.  Jimmy Jones and I both completely understand the trials and tribulations of choosing professional golf as your occupation and have always felt that if we are fair, treat the players with respect, and do the best job we can, we will provide an affordable training ground for developing players.

Co-operative (often referred to as a co-op) is defined as an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations.  An organization operated by a group of individuals for their mutual benefit.

As a developing player you need other good players to play against and some folks like Jimmy and I to organize, promote, and administer golf tournaments in such a way that you can rely upon it to be there.

I know that many of you were upset with the players that did not play today.  Each of them had their own reason, valid or not, and I assure you it did not go unnoticed.  I prefer to handle these types of situations on an individual basis with those who abuse our guiding principle of voluntary professionalism, instead of creating rules to punish.

Today we had the opportunity to play PGA National in the height of season.  70 players played in difficult, but playable conditions, honoring their commitment to each other, the course and the tour.  It was Professionalism at its finest.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – An afternoon start, steady rain, and cart path only golf made for long day on Monday at PGA National's Haig course.  With play starting on both nines and a poor weather forecast, a plan B was made the night before to accommodate a situation that might occur.  It did.  The last group of players that started on the first hole only finished 17 holes and the last group of players that started on the tenth hole finished 16 holes.  To be equitable, the field was separated in two halves, by starting tee.
